Huidrom (O) Geeta DeviHuidrom (O) Geeta Devi lost her husband Mr Romi Huidrom, a Karate instructor in the hands of Indian armed forces on 30th January 2001 in the state capital Imphal. The reason is not known. She said, “I still remember the day when the incident happened.Shocked and shaken by the news of my husband’s death I was devastated”. She said,”There were times when I did not know where I was going till the rickshaw puller asked where he should drop me”. The only thing that kept her going was thoughts of her two children, 6 and 11 years old. In spite of the mental trauma she had to make ends meet, being left the only earning member of the family.

MWGSN met Geeta in 2008 and started supporting her by opening a bank account and giving a small fund to start her embroidery work. Besides clothes work, she also started making agarbattis at home along with her daughter Tanya who has dreams of becoming a nurse. After several years of hard work and support from MWGSN, Geeta opened her shop in Imphal, Manipur on 21st April 2012. She has grocery items, some vegetables and even plan to add clothes too. Besides, she continues to do embroidery work.

In the words of Geeta Devi, “My children were 6 and 11 years old when he passed away but now they are grown up and gives me moral support. My dream is to see them stand on their own feet one day. Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network has been a great support to me and my family when our life was in pain”.

Geeta and her daughter Tanya are one of the strongest members of the Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network.
